Singing Teaching
I love teaching and helping people to sing with ease and enjoyment, whatever their goals.
In my private teaching and coaching practice I work with adults and children of all ages, backgrounds and musical interests. I am happy to help prepare students for examinations, auditions, competitions or just to help them explore their voices and gain enjoyment from singing together.
I am a highly qualified teacher and experienced educator having worked in a variety of settings, including for music hubs, schools, colleges, universities and in hospital education. I have an MA in voice pedagogy and an MSc in learning and teaching from Oxford University, specialising in inclusive education. As well as this I attend regular CPD events developing my understanding of skills needed to teach the whole person, including counselling, coaching, anatomy, mindfulness and more.
All of these are integrated into my work to provide bespoke, person-centred lessons that consider the biopsychosocial needs of the student.
As well as working with classical singers, I teach Musical Theatre and Pop and Rock styles and have a proven track record of outstanding provision. I have over a 15 years experience of guiding students through graded examinations, diplomas and on to successful auditions for music colleges and university performance degrees, including Oxbridge choral scholarships. I also continue to successfully prepare young singers for chorister voice trials at Bristol Cathedral and St Mary Redcliffe Church, Bristol and have a deep understanding of how to support students going through voice change.
Choral Coaching
I am currently an Assistant Conductor and Vocal Coach at Bristol Youth Choir, working with singers aged 6-19. As well as this I am resident vocal coach with Bristol’s acclaimed Exultate Singers, and work alongside conductors from other choirs and choral societies providing coaching workshops for their singers. I also offer voice pedagogy training for conductors who would like to develop their own voices and the way they communicate their musical and artistic interpretations to singers.
I am available for coaching sessions on a range of topics including: vocal health, practical vocal acoustics, solo voice ensemble singing, male and female adolescent voice change, chorister training, singing for health, singing in later life, musical expression, emotion, and interpretation, language for learning, metaphor in choral conducting and singing.
Professional Spoken Voice Workshops
As well as working with singers, I deliver vocal health workshops for other professional voice users, including actors, public speakers, teachers and other professional communicators. My workshops offer a fun and practical insight into how to maximise the potential of your voice and use it as a tool to create impactful delivery to audiences, clients and stakeholders. As well as this, sessions can address common vocal health problems and how they can be remedied with ease and efficiency. Clients include: Sing and Sign UK, Explorer Dome, Bristol Beacon, Bristol Teacher Network.
